SEASIDE, Calif. -- Looking to avoid being swept for the first time this season, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team came out firing on all cylinders as
Myles Hager opened up the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. The Otters plated two runs in the first inning to open the flood gates in a 17-4 win over No. 2 ranked Chico State.
After the 2-run first inning the Otters recorded innings of 5, 7, 2 and 1 en route to a 17-run afternoon. Chico State scored four times in the middle innings but it was no where near attempting a comeback in the lopsided game.

LEADING OFF... Head coach
Walt White kept the trend of having spot starts this series going by giving senior
Avery Ortiz his first start of the season. Ortiz pitched well by allowing two runs on two hits in four innings. .
ON DECK... Ruben Gonzalez led the lead with four RBI. Two of the four came on a double down the right field line in the fourth inning. Hager hit his team-leading eighth home run of the season in the first inning.
IN THE HOLE... The Otters will head to Stockton for the CCAA Tournament locked in as the No. 5 seed. All signs point to the Otters facing Cal Poly Pomona in the first game on Wednesday, May 10. This season, the Otters are 4-2 against CPP. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
THE LAST WORD... "Today was a nice way for our regular season to finish, especially for our seniors. Now we can go into the CCAA tournament after playing one of our better games. The team that wins the tournament is typically the team that plays the best at the right time. This win gives us that confidence and we would love to build off this game as we move on."
