SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team battled with Sonoma State in a doubleheader in Saturday afternoon in what became a pitcher's duel in game one and a slugfest in game two. CSUMB came away with the narrow 3-2 game one victory on a clutch at-bat late in the game, but SSU answered in game two scoring 12 runs to the Otters' 5 in a game two loss, 12-5.
Greg Steinbeck had the best outing of the season but was left with a no decision as the game was tied upon his exit.
Ryan Winkler came up clutch in the eighth inning by driving in what proved to be the winning run in the 3-2 victory. Naturally,
Kyle Narahara came on in the ninth and shut the door on the Seawolves for his eighth save of the season.
Game two was the opposite as CSUMB pitching could not a find a groove. The Otter staff gave up two runs to SSU in all but one inning, leading to a 12-5 loss.
Myles Hager and
Hayden Duer both went deep in the first inning, recording their eighth and seventh home runs of the season, respectively.
