Otters Give Whole Team Effort in Loss at FPU

Alvarado tosses three shutout innings

FRESNO, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team used almost its entire roster in Tuesday's night's 7-2 loss to Fresno Pacific. The Otters used 18 position players but could only muster two runs, neither of which came from the benefit of a hit. Austin Spainhour collected the loan RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. The other Otter run came on a wild pitch that scored Jordan Esposo in the third inning.

Jorge Alvarado made the start for CSUMB and pitched three strong innings of not-hit ball including three strikeouts and no walks on 29 pitches. Jacob Tonascia (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs in the sixth inning.

LEADING OFF... The Otters used a total of 24 players in tonight's game while FPU put 20 players into the game, including eight  pitchers.

ON DECK... Senior catcher Austin Spainhour recorded his first-career RBI in tonight's game with a sacrifice fly scored Nick Vigo

IN THE HOLE... The Otters now sport an 11-7 overall record and are 7-4 in nonconference games this season

THE LAST WORD... "Alvarado was the lone bright spot in a game in which we didn't play very well. We made errors in crucial spots, we walked far too many people, and we didn't take the bat off our shoulders when we had opportunities to score. We are very disappointed i our effort this evening and we will need to play much better moving forward." -Head Coach Walt White

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... The Otters will head to UC San Diego for a big time 3-game series against the eighth-ranked Tritons. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.

GO OTTERS!
