Otters Fall to Cougars on Sunday; Win Series 2-1

Duer homered for the 4th time this season

SEASIDE, Calif. — Sunday's series finalé vs Cal State San Marcos brought a little bit of rain and a lot of wind to the Otter Sports Complex. The Otters got off to a slow start offensively as they didn't see their first hit until the fifth inning.

Hayden Duer drilled the first pitch he saw to start the fifth inning with a bang as his fourth home run sailed over the left field fence, giving the Otters a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived as CSUMB surrendered its small advantage in the top of the sixth as CSUSM plated four runs to take a 4-1 edge.

The Otters collected three more hits in the final four innings but saw the Cougars score three times in the top of the ninth en route to a 1-7 loss. Ryan Arambula (2-1) pitched well, but took his first loss of the season after allowing two runs in five and two-thirds innings pitched.

LEADING OFF... Even with Sunday's 7-1 loss, the Otters still outscored CSUSM 23-11.

ON DECK... Max Sanderson saw his hitting streak come to an end at 14 games as he went 0-for-3 at the plate on Sunday. However, he was hit by a pitch which extended his on-base streak to 16 games

IN THE HOLE... Monterey Bay took its first loss to the CCAA newcomers on Sunday. The Otters now hold a 5-1 all-time record against the Cougars

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will head to Fresno Pacific on Tuesday, March 7 for a make-up game vs the Sunbirds that was postponed by rain. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
