SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team outscored Cal State San Marcos 23-4 in Saturday's doubleheader action at the Otter Sports Complex. While San Marcos was able to score first in both games, the Otters eventually got to the Cougar pitching and came from behind in wins of 6-2 and 17-2.
Max Sanderson led the Otters at the plate going a combine 5-for-8 with four runs scored and four RBIs.
Hayden Duer also contributed four RBIs on the day.
Bryan Granger (2-2) earned his second win of the season after five innings of 1-run baseball.
Drew Kozain (1-0) earned win number one with four hitless innings of relief work in game two.
LEADING OFF... With hits in both games today, Sanderson extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Oddly enough, Sanderson would not have continued his streak if the Otters had not batted around in the eighth inning of game two. He was walked in his first at-bat of the eighth and later doubled in the same inning for his only hit of game two. He also owns an on-base streak of 15 games.
ON DECK... The Otters scored 10 runs in the eighth inning of game two en route to a 17-2 win. The Otters had not scored 10 runs in an inning since Feb. 21, 2015 in an 18-8 win over Cal State East Bay
IN THE HOLE... Monterey Bay is still perfect against Cal State San Marcos, holding a 5-0 record against the CCAA newbies
