Gonzalez’s 5 RBIs Drives Otters to 11-2 Win at CSUSB

Otters win series two games to one

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team didn't waste much time getting back into the swing of things offensively. CSUMB plated six runs in the second innings that propelled the Otter offense to a 11-2 win on Sunday against Cal State San Bernardino, good for a 2-1 series win over the Coyotes.

Ruben Gonzalez had the game of his career by accounting for over half of the CSUMB production by bringing home five RBIs and scoring once in the win.

Despite allowing a 2-run blemish to CSUSB in the fifth inning, CSUMB was in the drivers seat throughout, leading to a convincing 11-2 win. Ryan Arambula (4-1) earned his team leading fourth win, allowing two runs in five innings of work.

LEADING OFF... Gonzalez's five RBIs in Sunday's game marks a career-high for senior infielder

ON DECK... Jacob Tonascia found the long ball once again smacking a 2-run shot in the top of the seventh inning. The homer was Tonascia's third of the weekend and fourth of the season. Darren Kriz followed suit with a solo shot of his own.

IN THE HOLE... The Otters are now 17-10, 10-6 CCAA are hold a half-game lead on Cal State East Bay for second place in the CCAA North Division.

THE LAST WORD... "Anytime you can win a road series in the CCAA, it's a good weekend. I was especially proud of the way we responded today, after a difficult extra inning loss in game 2 yesterday. We were able to put up a big number early in today's game. Arambula, Colton Fletcher, and Kyle Narahara were stellar on the mound throughout." -Head Coach Walt White

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will face tough opposition at home next week in the 2016 NCAA West Regional Champion Cal Poly Pomona Broncos. The Broncos come to the Otter Sports Complex with a 15-14, 11-7 CCAA record. The Otters took two of three games in a nonconference series earlier this season in Pomona, Calif.

GO OTTERS!
