Hager, Tonascia Go Deep Twice in Twinbill Split

Otters fall in extra innings in game two

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team hit the road on Saturday to face its fourth CCAA South Division opponent in a row in Cal State San Bernardino. CSUMB took game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 11-7, but felt heartbreak in a 3-4 game two loss that ended in extra innings.

The long ball was the featured form of run production in game one as Hayden Duer and Jacob Tonascia each went deep. Myles Hager took team lead in homers with six as the junior second baseman drove two balls over the fence, accounting for three RBIs in the victory.

Game two brought a not-so-powerful offense as CSUMB plated three runs in the nightcap. Despite leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Coyotes were able to score three times in their half of the seventh, effectively sending the game into extra innings. CSUSB used home field advantage wisely as Lucas Martinez sent the hosts off with a walkoff home run to end it in the tenth.

LEADING OFF... CSUMB starting pitcher Jeffrey Ahern (3-0) earned his third win in Saturday's game one to stay undefeated on the season. The left-hander threw six innings of 1-run baseball that featured three strikeouts

ON DECK... The Otters got the big sticks out on Saturday by hitting five home runs in the doubleheader, the most in a two game span all season. Tonascia and Hager each smacked two.

IN THE HOLE... Saturday's second game was the first extra inning game os the season for CSUMB

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay and San Bernardino will wrap up the 3-game series with the rubber match on Sunday. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
