SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The pace of them changed with each quarter as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball battled back and forth with Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night, ending in a 49-52 loss for CSUMB
After a slow start the Otters bounced back by winning the second quarter 18-10, bringing a 2-point lead into intermission, 27-25. Both teams came out flat in the third quarter as neither team was able to score more than nine points in the quarter. The fourth quarter kept things interesting as both teams were on their game. The Coyotes, however, had the upper hand in the final 10 minutes, barley out scoring the Otters 18-14.
Aubri Smith (Buena HS) led the Otters in scoring as the only player in double figures with 17 points.
LEADERS OF THE RAFT: POINTS: Smith -- 17;
REBOUNDS: Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS), Kylie Fujioka (Keppel HS) -- 6;
ASSISTS: Jesse Evans (Bret Harte HS), Smith -- 3;
STEALS: Smtih -- 6; BLOCKS: McKenna Hill (Saint Boneventure HS), Smith, Keaton
THE LAST WORD: "Tonight was tough because we played really well and accomplished what we set out except for rebounding. We gave them too many opportunities for second chance points. We made the adjustments from the last time we played them defensively but need to clean up our rebounding for next weeks games."
-Head Coach Kerri Nakamoto
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will return home to face San Francisco State for the first time this season on Friday, Feb. 10 in The Kelp Bed. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
