Hager a triple short of the cycle

Story Links

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team wrapped up its first CCAA series of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex with a convincing 10-0 win over Cal State East Bay in order to salvage a split of the series at two game apiece. The Otter scored three times in the fourth and six times in the sixth inning before a single run in the seventh led CSUMB to the victory.

Myles Hager (Chaminade Prep) had arguably his best game at the plate of the season by being a triple short of the cycle. The junior went 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. He smacked his third home run of the season in sixth inning and is now tied for the team lead in big flies.

Hayden Duer (Davis HS) contributed with a 3-hit, 2-run day while Max Sanderson (Foothil HS) knocked in three runs in his 2-for-5 afternoon. CSUMB starter Ryan Arambula (Bell Gardens HS) pitched five scoreless innings allowing just two hits in his second win (2-0) of the season.

LEADING OFF... Sanderson drilled his team-leading third triple of the season in the sixth inning extending his hitting streak to 12 games. He also holds a 13-game on-base streak.

ON DECK... After going 0-for-11 in last weeks series at Cal Poly Pomona, Myles Hager bounced back by putting together a 5-for-13 (.385) effort at the plate in four games against Cal State East Bay. Hager recorded three runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and four RBIs in the 4-game set.

IN THE HOLE... Otter pitching in this series was lights out as CSUMB allowed eight earned runs in 33 innings pitching, computing to a 2.18 ERA for the series.

THE LAST WORD... Watch the game highlights with postgame interview with head coach Walt White and third baseman Myles Hager

THEY'VE GOT NEXT... Monterey Bay will remain at home next weekend for a 3-game set against Cal State San Marcos. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 11:00 a.m.

GO OTTERS!
