Cold Shooting Paves The Way To 59-54 Loss

Otters shoot 32 percent from the floor, 18 percent from the arc at NDNU

BELMONT, Calif. — Another cold–shooting game did in the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team in a 59–54 loss at Notre Dame de Namur Sunday afternoon at Gleason Gym.

The Otters fought back from an early double–digit deficit to take several leads in the second half, but couldn't come up with the big buckets when they needed them most. CSUMB shot just 32 percent from the floor (22–of–69), including an 18 percent effort (5–of–28) from beyond the arc.

Compounding matters, the Otters missed several critical free throws and finished just 5–of–12 (42 percent) from the stripe.

Senior Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS) contributed a strong statistical game, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds for her third double–double of the season. She also led CSUMB with one block and four steals.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Emily Hardin's 3–point attempt couldn't find its way home with five seconds remaining and NDNU leading 59–54.

ANOTHER DOUBLE–DOUBLE… Courtney Keaton came into her senior season with just one career–double–double in 45 collegiate appearances. Sunday's 11–point, 13–rebound effort gives her three double–doubles in her last nine games.

A LITTLE WINDEX, PLEASE… Courtney Keaton (13) and Alexa Sperling (7) cleaned the glass to the tune of 20 rebounds Sunday at NDNU. The duo both rank in the Top 10 on the CSUMB career rebounding leaderboard. Keaton sits in the No. 8 spot at 352 while Sperling passed Michele Hale (2003–05) Sunday for the No. 9 spot Sunday with 330.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Courtney Keaton/Jordana Price 11; REBOUNDS: Courtney Keaton 13; ASSISTS: Aubri Smith 3; BLOCKS: Courtney Keaton 1; STEALS: Courtney Keaton 4.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters return to The Kelp Bed to play their final home game of the 2017 calendar year when they host San Francisco State Sunday (Nov. 17). Tip-off will be at 2 p.m. as the opening game of men's/women's doubleheader action.
