SEASIDE, Calif. — A tough start gave way to an even tougher finish as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball never managed to find its footing in a 64–40 loss to visiting Humboldt State Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

By the time the first 5:07 of the third quarter had passed—a time frame in which the Otters also scored just two points—Humboldt had built a 33–18 lead and Otters couldn't bite into it.
