SEASIDE, Calif. — For the second consecutive game, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team couldn't find its range. For the second consecutive game, the result showed the effects, this time in a 65–36 loss to visiting Cal State East Bay Saturday night in The Kelp Bed.
CSUMB attempted a season–high 35 shots in the first half, but made just seven (20 percent). East Bay, meanwhile, shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half to build a 40–14 lead at the break.
Aubri Smith (Ventura College/Buena HS) led CSUMB with eight points and three steals. Four different Otters led on the glass with six boards each.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… a Janae Chamois 3–pointer made it 56–24 East Bay with 47 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
ICE COLD… The Otters finished a season–low 22 percent (15–of–68) from the floor.
BOMBS (NOT) AWAY… The Otters went 132 consecutive games making at least one 3–pointer from 2013–17. Their latest streak didn't last quite as long. CSUMB went 0–for–9 from beyond the arc Saturday night, ending their current streak at three games.
LOW 2–FER… By scoring 76 combined points in its last two games, the Otter posted their lowest 2–game total since joining the NCAA for the 2004–05 season. It's the lowest 2–game total since scoring 75 points against Dominican and San Jose Christian Jan. 24–27, 2004.
