SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team welcomed the Lumberjacks from Humboldt State into The Kelp Bed on Saturday night looking for its second CCAA win and a season sweep of the 'Jacks.
Behind a
Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS) double-double the Otters were able to secure the W in convincing fashion, 56-43. In addition to Keaton's 11-point, 13-rebound night,
McKenna Hill (Saint Boneventure HS) and
Victoria Dorn (Seaside HS) chipped in eleven points.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Humboldt State's Tyra Turner missed the second of her two free throws, giving the Otters a 13-point lead with 1:35 remaining in the game.
NOT TO MENTION... In addition to her double-double, Keaton's 13 rebounds were a season-high and were one short of tying her career-high of 14.
CLEAN DISHES: Junior
Aubri Smith (Bunea HS) dished out a cool nine assists against Humboldt State; good for her career-high in that category. Her previous best was seven against Cal Poly Pomona last night.
LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Keaton, Hill, Dorn -- 11;
REBOUNDS: Keaton -- 13;
ASSISTS: Smith
-- 9; STEALS: Keaton
-- 3; BLOCKS: Smith, Hill,
Jessie Evans (Bret Harte HS), Jennifer Saelio (Las Lomas HS) -- 1
THE LAST WORD: Check out the
postgame interview with head coach
