HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team traveled to Cal State East Bay for it's only game of the week. The Otters remained close throughout the game and gaining a nine point lead midway through the third quarter.
However, 14-point nights from
Aubri Smith (Buena HS) and
McKenna Hill (Saint Bonaventure HS) would not be enough as a late push and clutch free throw shooting gave the Pioneers the six-point edge late, 75-69
CSUMB shot well on the night, coming in at a cool 40% from the field. The balanced scoring attack remained as seven other Otters, in addition to Smith and Hill, contributed points on Saturday night.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… A Monterey Bay turnover with eight seconds remaining gave the ball back to the Pioneers with a five-point lead, 74-69.
VENTURA CONNECTION: Not only did
Aubri Smith and
McKenna Hill tie for the team lead in points with 14 on Saturday night, but the shooters hail from the same home town in Ventura, Calif.
A FIRST FOR EVERYTHING: For the first time in her Otter career, Smith came away as the team's leading scorer, netting 14 points on Saturday night.
