HAYWARD, Calif. -- Despite losing to the Cal State East Pioneers on Sunday afternoon, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was able to share the CCAA North Division, effectively earning the CCAA Championship Tournament's 3-seed.
The Otters played from behind in Sunday's finalé as CSUEB was able to score first in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Kevin Davidson (Yucaipa HS) answered back with an RBI ground out in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Cal State East Bay broke through and regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning, but CSUMB came right back and tied the game off of a
Will Rosado (Clovis East HS) home run, his seventh of the season.
Later in the game, CSUMB was unable to get out of a bases loaded jam, and allowed the Pioneers to score three times in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Otters could not mount a come back in the late innings, losing 2-5. With the loss the Otters move to 32–17, 21–16 in a tie atop the CCAA North Division.
Monterey Bay will battle UC San Diego in the first round of the CCAA Championship Tournament at 7pm on Wednesday, May 11.
