HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay offense could not find a rhythm on Friday in the series opener against Cal State East Bay. CSUMB starter
Ryan Boydstun (La Quinta) surrendered three runs in the bottom of the first and the Pioneers never looked back. The Otters garnered one run in the top the of the ninth but it was too late for a comeback in the 1-7 loss.
The Otters were able to gather three doubles on the day and even had the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, but a fly out negated any rally.
Kevin Davidson (Yucaipa HS) collected his 16th double while
Will Rosado (Clovis East HS) hit his 14th two-bagger and
Jeffery Amaral (Saint Francis HS) collected his fourth.
Matt Urakami (Branham HS) collected the lone RBI in the ninth inning to bring him to 31 on the season.
The Otters are now 31-15, 20-14 CCAA. Monterey Bay and East bay will continue the series in Seaside, Calif. on Saturday for doubleheader action. Saturday will also be senior day for 15 players who will playing in their final home games. First pitch is set for noon.Â
