SEASIDE, Calif. -- Andres Coll (Arleta / Arleta HS) was inserted in the lineup for the second time this season and provided a much needed offensive spark for the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team on Saturday afternoon. CSUMB trailed 2–0 going into the bottom fo the fifth inning, but turned things around in the late innings
en route to a 7–3 win over Cal STate Dominguez Hills.
Coll singled in his first at bat and hit his first double of the season in a 2–for–3 day at the plate. He also came around to scored the tying run on
Matt Urakami's (San Jose, Calif. / Branham HS) 2–RBI single in the fifth, making it 2–2.
Will Rosado (Clovis East HS) later drove in Urakami to give the Otters a 3–2 lead.
After CSUDH tied it in the top of the sixth inning at 3–3, Coll struck again with an RBI sacrifice fly to give CSUMB the 1–run lead back at 4–3. Needing insurance runs, CSUMB played small ball and benfited from two Toro errors en route to a 7–3 lead.
Kyle Narahara (Castro Valley HS) came in in the eighth inning and earned the two inning save (4) allowing just one hit.
Drew Kozain (Redondo Union High School) came in on relief of CSUMB starter
Jared Koenig (Aptos HS) and earned his third win of the season (3–1). Kozain threw an inning and a third and allowed one hit and no runs.
CSUMB is now 19–6, 8–5 CCAA. Monterey Bay will play a make up doubleheader against Stanislaus State on Monday before heading to Cal Poly Pomona for a 3–game series with NCAA West Region implications.
