Otters Get Twinbill Sweep, Control Series 3–0

Amaral collects 3 RBIs, Flores moves total to 8

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- After scoring 14 runs in the series opener, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team picked up where they left off. CSUMB scored a combine 15 runs in two games on Saturday in San Francisco en route to wins of 7–0 and 8–4 against San Francisco State.

Justin Flores (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis West HS) also picked up where he left off after Friday's five RBI's. The senior right fielder tacked on two more RBIs in game one and one RBI in game two of Saturday's doubleheader bringing his weekend total to eight.

CSUMB scored early and often in game one plating at least one run in six of nine innings en route to the 7–0 win. Ryan Boydstun (La Quinta HS) pitched his best game of the season. The right hander threw seven strong innings on shutout ball allowing only three hits while striking out three as well. Boydstun moves to 4–1 on the season.

Game two was more of the same for CSUMB, plating six runs in the first inning to put SFSU in a early 6–0 hole. Jeffery Amaral (Sunnyvale / Saint Francis HS) smacked a 3–RBI double that hurt the Gators although all three runs were unearned. The pitching combination of Jorge Alvarado (W, 1-1) and Steven Zaharias held the Gators at bay allowing four runs on seven hits.

Through three games, CSUMB has scored 29 runs and allowed eight. The Otters move to 18-3, 7-2 CCAA. Monterey Bay and San Francisco State will return to the Otter Sports Complex on Sunday for the series finalé in hopes of a series sweep.
