SEASIDE, Calif. -- A day after the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball gave one away to Stanislaus State, the Otters bounced back for a convincing 11–3 win at home on Sunday afternoon.
CSUMB got off to a hot start in the first inning, plating three runs to grab a 3–0 lead early.
Myles Hager (Tarzana, Calif / Chaminade College Prep) continued seeing the baseball as a beach ball and smacked an RBI double to grab sole posssion of the team RBI lead.
Kevin Davidson (Yucaipa HS) followed that up with a 2–run home run, bringing in Hager for his fourth home run of the season.
The third inning brought three more runs for CSUMB, highlighted by an RBI double by
Chris Blanton (Burlingame HS). The Warriors got on the board in the fifth inning, breaking through off of CSUMB starter
Ryan Boydstun (La Quinta HS), but the Otters quickly answered with a
Jeff Amaral (Sunnyvale / Saint Francis HS) sacrifice fly to stay six runs ahead, 7–1.
Monterey Bay tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning, both off the bat of Hager in a deep 2–run shot to straight away center field, staking a 9–1 lead. While Stanislaus State came across twice in the top of the eighth inning, CSUMB answered again with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on an error by the Warriors, leading to an 11–3 lead and eventual win.
Boydstun (2–0) earned the win after five solid innings of 1–run baseball with six strikeouts. Hager drove the offense, collect three more RBIs. Davidson and Amaral knocked in two runs each in the victory. In fact, all nine of the starters recorded at least one hit for CSUMB.
Before beginning the conference season at Chico State on February 26, Monterey Bay will play their final nonconference contest at Fresno Pacific on Tuesday, February 23.
