ARCATA, Calif. — Another tough shooting night for the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team spoiled a strong defensive effort in a 57–42 loss at Humboldt State Saturday night in Lumberjack Arena. The Otters shot just 25 percent from the floor—including a 2-of-20 effort from beyond the arc—allowing Humboldt to pull away down the stretch for the 15-point win.
Sophomore forward
Alexa Sperling (Clovis/Buchanan HS) came off the bench to lead the Otters with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting. CSUMB's leading scorers
McKenna Hill and
Victoria Dorn suffered through frigid shooting games, however, combining to go 1-for-20 from the floor, including 0-for-7 from 3-point range.
Despite their shooting difficulties, the Otters stayed within range of Humboldt for most of the night. They cut the deficit to seven points at 43–36 with eight minutes remaining and got three consecutive stops to give themselves chances to cut the lead further. But they missed all three opportunities and Humboldt eased away down the stretch.
In addition to Sperling's stat line, Hill led the Otters with seven rebounds and
Brianna Tucker added a team–high three assists.
CSUMB returns to The Kelp Bed for its final home games of the 2015–16 season when it hosts Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills Feb. 19–20.
GO OTTERS!
