SEASIDE, Calif. — Junior forward
Courtney Keaton (Bishop Montgomery HS) enjoyed the best night of her collegiate career Friday night, setting a school record with seven blocked shots to lead the Otters past visiting Fresno Pacific 68–56 in The Kelp Bed. Keaton added a career–high 15 points and a season–high 11 rebounds as the Otters improved to 2–2 overall.
Senior forward
McKenna Hill (Ventura/St. Bonaventure HS) added a 13–point, 11 rebound double–double. Junior guard
Aubri Smith (Ventura College)—the smallest player on the Otter roster at 5-foot-2—even got into the act with a 10–point, 10–rebound double–double of her own.
Although FPU held the lead for just 31 seconds in the first quarter, the Otters didn't pull away until late in the third. After a short Keaton jumper got the lead to double digits at 50–39, FPU never got closer than eight points over the final 11:22.
THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Christine Golfo grabbed an offensive board with 1:48 remaining and the Otters leading 65–52.
WELL THAT DIDN'T LAST LONG… The most recent addition to the CSUMB single game record book was most blocks in a game. Former Otter
Jazmine Johnson set the mark twice, last with six in a win Sonoma State on Jan. 1, 2016. It took
Courtney Keaton just 20 games to top Johnson with her seven blocks Friday night.
TRIPLE DOUBLE–DOUBLE… The Otters established an unusual first Friday night with three players recording double–doubles in the same game.
Courtney Keaton (15 pts, 12 reb),
McKenna Hill (13 & 11) and
Aubri Smith (10 & 10) become the first Otter women's trio to accomplish the feat in the same game.
