SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- For the second time in January, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team battled San Francisco State, this time in The City on Saturday night. The Otters led for 32:22 but were held to six points in the fourth quarter and upended by the Gators in the 57–49 loss in The Swamp.
CSUMB scored 16 points in the first two quarters and held a 32–25 lead at halftime. However, the third quarter and on continued to be inconsistent for the Otters as they shot just over 46% in the second half, down from a blazing 52.9% in the first half. The Otters were held to 11 points in the third quarter followed by a six point fourth quarter. In fact, CSUMB led by 12 with 4:31 remaining in the third quarter. The Otters surrendured the lead in the fourth quarter at 49-48 and could not regain control. SF State closed out the game on an 18-2 run to take a season sweep of Monterey Bay.
Despite the loss,
McKenna Hill (Ventura, Calif. / Saint Bonaventure HS) led the Otters in points with 15. No other Otter was in double–figures. For the Gators, four players scored in double-digits including Tatsiana Dashkevich with 17 to lead all scorers.
CSUMB falls to 7–11, 3–8 CCAA. Monterey Bay will have a quick turn around as Bay Area foe Cal State East Bay visits the Kelp Bed on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
