SEASIDE, Calif. -- One night after the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team won a narrow game vs Sonoma State, the Otters played in another nail biter on Saturday night against San Francisco State.
CSUMB found themselves up by nine at the half after a good jumper by
Addie Garza (Hughson HS) closed off a 9–2 run for the Otters. The third quarter continued to be boom–or–bust for the Otters as San Francisco State held Monterey Bay to 16 points in the third frame. SFSU kicked off the third quarter on a 17–9 run that gave them a 33–34 lead at the 3:10 mark. CSUMB closed out the quarter on a small run of their own to lead 40–36 heading into the fourth quarter.
Monterey Bay held a lead of six three times in the final quarter, but could not find a way to keep the Gators off the score baord. Trailing by four with 2:33 remaining, San Francisco State closed out the game on a 8–0 run to hand the Otters the 52–56 loss at home.
Despite the four–point loss,
McKenna Hill (Ventura, Calif. / Saint Bonaventure HS) and
Victoria Dorn (Marina, Calif. / Seaside HS) each scored in double figures. The two juniors collected 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Garza was active on the boards, grabbing a career–high eight on the night. The Gators' Tatsiana Dashkevich led all scorers with 18 points.
The Otters fall to 6–6, 2–3 CCAA. Monterey Bay will hit the road next for dates at Cal State Dominguez Hills (Jan. 7) and Cal State San Marcos (Jan. 9).
GO OTTERS!
