CSUMB Unable to Close Out Tritons At Home

Dorn scores 19; Johnson pulls down 11 boards

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Saturday night brought the prospect of a conference upset as the first place #18 UC San Diego Tritons came into the Kelp Bed. At the start of the game it looked like the Otters might be able to pull it off, as they led by as much as 15 in the third quarter. However, the Tritons found themselves in the second half and came back to settle the Otters into a 57-67 loss.

Despite playing one of their best games of the season, Monterey Bay was not able to keep up for the full 40 minutes. With a nine point lead at halftime, the Otters pushed that lead to 15 with 7:49 remaining in the third quarter. That was when UC San Diego made their run. The Tritons where able to shrink the Otter lead to 11 after the third quarter and proceeded to hold CSUMB to seven points in the final 10 minutes.

UCSD tripled the CSUMB scoring output in the fourth quarter outscoring the hosts 21–7 to complete the comeback and win by 10 points. That 10 point lead was the largest of the game for UCSD and din't come until 26 seconds left in the game.

CSUMB was led by local Victoria Dorn (Marina, Calif. / Seaside HS)  who scored 19 points. Also with 19 points was UCSD's Jamie Katuna on 8 of 24 shooting. The Tritons star Farrah Shokoor collected a double–double with 24 points and 19 rebounds. 14 of her 24 points came at the free throw line as she went 14–of–20.

Monterey Bay frops to 7–9, 3–6 CCAA and will head to on the raod to play Sonoma State and San Francisco State next weekend.
