Otters Capitalize On Late Three-Pointers in 61-60 Win

McKenna Hill with season–high 19

SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team played another close one in the Kelp Bed on Friday night as Cal State San Bernardino visited Seaside.

The Otters scored more points in three out of four quarters and held a three–point lead at half time 29–26.

CSUMB came out hot in the third quarter behind the jumper of McKenna Hill (Ventura, Calif. / Saint Bonaventure HS) who scored 10 of her season–high 19 points out of the break. However, tied at 44–44, the game would be decided in the final 10 minutes.

Enter freshman Brianna Tucker (San Jose, Calif. / Clovis North HS) who scored six of her 10 points in 1:05. As the Otters trailed by three, Tucker hit the first of her big three–pointers to knot the game at 55–55 with 2:51 remaining. On the next possession, Tucker nailed her second three–pointer to give CSUMB the 58–55 lead with 1:46 left in the game. The three–point edge virtually sealed the deal for the Otters as three consecutive free throws, follows by a Coyote layup at the buzzer, gave CSUMB the one–point victory, 61–60.

Hill led all scorers with her 19 points, while Tucker netted 10. Four different Otters collected six rebounds en route to a 41 rebound evening. CSUSB had four players in double–figures with Alexcia Mack and Chelsea Austin leading the way with 14. Brianna Harden recorded a double–double for San Bernardino with 12 points and 10 boards.

CSUMB moves to 7–8, 3–5 CCAA. Monterey Bay has a chance to make it back to a .500 record tomorrow night vs UC San Diego. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Kelp Bed.
