STOCKTON, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay Baseball team got out to a 3–0 lead early on, but surrendered two runs in the third inning and four in the sixth to fall to Cal State Dominguez State at Klein Family Field on Friday afternoon. The loss eliminates the Otters from CCAA tournament. CSUMB will have to patiently wait until Sunday at 7p.m. to find out their West Regional fate.
The Otters scored three times without the benefit of a hit as runs came in on a bases loaded hit–by–pitch, a sacrifice fly, and wild pitch giving CSUMB a 3–0 lead after two innings of play. The Toros came back and plated two runs in the top of the third inning with only one RBI. CSUDH also took advantage of a wild pitch that came on a swinging strike three.
After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, the Toros brought four runs across to tie the game and eventually take a 6–3 lead. CSUDH strung together four consecutive singles including a two–RBI hit by Adrian Guzman. CSUMB tried to get a late rally going in the eighth, but after
Brian Hamm's (Pleasanton, Calif. / Amador Valley HS) sacrifice fly got a run across,
Justin Flores (Fresno, Calif. / Clovis West HS) struck out swinging to end the threat.
Kevin Davidson (Yucaipa HS) led off the ninth with a walk, but was thrown out attempting to steal second for the second out of the inning.
Hayden Duer (Davis HS) then recorded a two–out single, but a
Ty Morris (Royal Oaks, Calif. / North Monterey County HS) pinch–hit fly out to center field ended any hopes of a comeback.
Hamm, Duer, and Flores each collected one RBI for the Otters in the loss. Four different Otters recorded a hit.
Copy Gappa (Corning, Calif. / Red Bluff HS) was tagged with the loss (6–5) after allowing six runs on eight hits.
The Otters end the 2015 conference season with a 32–20 overall record. The Otter are currently ranked 7th in the West Region Poll; the top six make the regional playoff. The NCAA Selection Show will be available to view on NCAA.com
