SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team played one of its most complete games of the season to roll to a 67-45 win over San Francisco State Friday night in The Kelp Bed.
The Otters shot 46 percent from the floor, their third best shooting night of the season, while holding an opponent under 50 points for the first time since limiting Sonoma State to 45 on Feb. 28 of last season.
Sophomore guard
Victoria Dorn (Marina/Seaside HS) scored 12 points to lead a balanced offense in which seven players scored at least six points. Freshman
Emma Keenan (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark HS) and sophomore
McKenna Hill (Ventura/St. Bonaventure HS) each grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Otters to a 46–27 edge on the glass.
Although the final score reflected an Otter blowout, the Gators gave them all they could handle for the first 20 minutes. In fact, the Otters didn't grab the lead for good until a spectacular
Kaila Turner (Pasadena/L.A. Valley College) layup with 5:17 remaining put CSUMB up 14-13.
The Otters then put on a 15-3 run in the four minutes surrounding halftime to open a 33-20 lead that wouldn't be challenged.
In addition to Dorn, Hill scored 11 points and
Nikki Beckman (Dublin/Ohlone College) chipped in a game-high five assists.
Jenna Bandy (Thousand Oaks HS) scored nine points as her 9-game streak of scoring in double figures came to an end.
CSUMB closes its 2-game homestand by hosting Sonoma State Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
GO OTTERS!
