OTTERS at FRESNO PACIFIC HIGHLIGHTSSEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball made it three wins in a row with a strong comeback to beat Fresno Pacific 53–52 in overtime Tuesday night at the FPU Special Events Center.
Senior guard
Stephanie Sack (Petaluma/Santa Rosa JC) led the way, dishing a career–high 10 assists, just one off Alma Garcia's school record, while chipping in a career–high five steals.
McKenna Hill (Ventura/St. Bonaventure HS) led the offense with 14 points while
Mykayla Harris (Orange/Villa Park HS) came off the bench to grab a game–high eight rebounds.
CSUMB (3–1 overall) trailed by nine at the half, 28–17, but played its best third quarter of the season to get back into the game. The Otters out–scored the Sunbirds 18–12 in the period to draw to within three. When Harris completed a 3–point play three minutes into the fourth, the Otters had their first lead of the night at 42–40.
The Otters never trailed again but couldn't pull away down the stretch. FPU hung around until the final seconds when Megan Lee scored the final two of her game–high 19 points to send the teams to overtime tied at 50–50.
A 3–pointer by Hill opened what turned out to be an arid overtime period. The Otters didn't score again but held FPU to a pair of Kaysha Fox free throws over the five minutes of extra time to seal the win.
CSUMB will look to extend its winning streak to four games for the first time under
Kerri Nakamoto when it plays Academy of Art in the opening game of the East Bay Thanksgiving Challenge Friday in Hayward.
