SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team graduates a large class of senior players this season. A total of eight players will be playing in their final regular season game on Thursday night under the lights at Chico State.
Included in the lot is four–year goalkeeper
Evan Drake (Sacramento, Calif./El Camino HS) who ends his Otter career as one of the top CSUMB goalies. Drake currently has 14 shutouts including 4 this season. He also needs nine more saves to become the all-time leader in that category. Drake is first all-time with 23 wins, blowing away the others on the list.
Rudy Gonzales (Bakersfield, Calif./Independence HS) remains as the only other four–year player for the Otters. Gonzales is tied for 8th with two game–winning goals in his career. He has also scored four goals, including a career–high two this season.
Nick Butler (West Valley College), Matthew Kemp (Bellevue University), Roque Magana (Oxnard College), Josh Munoz (Fresno Community College), Lalo Avalos (Hartnell College), and
Jordan Moreno (American River College) are all product of transfering from other school but have made an impact on the team over their two year careers at CSUMB. Of the six of them, Magana and Kemp are tied with one goal each. Magana scored his in last years finalé against Humboldt State. Kemp earned his lone goal in dramatic fashion by scoring the tying goal against Cal State L.A. with three seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.
CSUMB still has a shot at making the CCAA playoffs but will need a win on Thursday in addition to help from teams above them in the
standings. Follow
