Not only did Cori Reinhardt toss a 3-hitter for her 12th win of the season in Game 1, she finished Wednesday’s doubleheader 4-for-6 at the plate.

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Pitching proved to be the theme of the day as the No. 15 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team got 3–hit complete game performances from Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) and Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) to earn a key West Region sweep of Central Washington, 4–1 and 2–0, Wednesday at the Otter Sports Complex.
The wins lifted CSUMB's (28–5) current winning streak to 10 games, matching the school record set from Feb. 22 through Mar. 15 this year. The Otters have won 20 of their last 21 games.
Central Washington, a contender for the Great Northwest Conference crown and a team receiving votes in this week's NCAA Division II top 25 poll, dropped to 15–12 with Wednesday's losses.
Reinhardt (12–3) allowed a slap single on the first pitch of the game than threw 5 1/3 consecutive innings of no–hit ball to keep the Wildcats in check in the opener. Clarkson (14–2), meanwhile, fanned five and walked one while recording her school season–record eighth shutout in the nightcap.
Junior outfielder Danica Arterburn (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) provided Reinhardt all the run support she would need with a 2–run, line drive double down the right field line to open what turned out to be a 4–run second inning in Game 1. The Otters added two more runs when Betty Poirier's (Buena Park/Santa Ana College) hustle beat the throw to second to prevent an inning–ending force out, allowing Arterburn and Courtney Varela (Harbor City/Torrance HS) to double the Otter advantage.
Central finally broke through in the sixth inning when Austin Wilkerson broke Reinhardt's no–hit streak with a 1–out single up the middle. Maikala Galusha, who homered in Central's 2–1 win over CSUMB last season, followed with a double off the center field fence to plate what proved to be the only Wildcat run of the day.
Arterburn got the Otter offense rolling in Game 2 as well, leading off the third inning with a walk before coming around to score on Reinhardt's 2–out single up the middle.
Clarkson lit the fuse in the fourth inning, reaching on an infield single when nobody covered first base following her squibber to the 3–4 hole. Pinch runner Katie Denio (Tustin/Santiago Canyon College) moved to second on a sacrifice then scored the insurance run on a Nicole Pires (Ontario/Colony HS) single up the middle.
Clarkson retired the final nine Wildcats in order to secure the win.
CSUMB heads to Turlock to take part in the Tournament of Champions, presented by the Turlock Convention and Visitor's Bureau, beginning Friday at Pedretti Park. The Otters will play five games in pool play over the first two days, including a key regional match–up against No. 2 ranked Cal Baptist Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
Live stats for all Otter games at the tournament will be available on www.OtterAthletics.com.
GO OTTERS!
