CARSON, Calif. -- The No. 2 Cal State Monterey Bay softball team ensured it will head to the final week of the regular season with its destiny in its own hands by sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills, 7-3 and 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Toro Diamond.

CSUMB improved to 41–7 overall and 22–6 in the CCAA. The Otters' magic number to clinch the CCAA title over Humboldt State is four, with the UC San Diego at Humboldt late result still pending at press time.

"I am very proud of the way we played this weekend. We overcame adversity," said CSUMB Head Coach Andrea Kenney (@Andrea_Kenney). "This team never quits. They are phenomenal."

While Otter pitching finished a weekend in which it didn't live up to the lofty standards of Otter pitching, the offense once again powered the way to victory. Madison Casto (Sunnyvale/Homestead HS) provided the pop in the opener, hitting her 11th double and her first collegiate home run to lead the 11–hit attack. Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) hit her second homer of the series to highlight the offense in Game 2.

Otter pitchers allowed only 11 hits in the twinbill, but they walked a combined 12 Toros, allowing Dominguez Hills to stay close to the end of both contests. Nevertheless, that didn't stop the Otter hurlers from rewriting the record books Saturday.

The most noteworthy mark was sophomore Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS) notching her 23rd victory of the season to tie the school record set by Reinhardt in 2012. For her part, Reinhardt added to her own CSUMB career records with her 51st victory in the opener and her seventh save in the nightcap.

Casto's RBI single staked the Otters to an early 1–0 lead in the opener, but they found themselves trailing for the third time in the series when the Toros scored a pair of 2–out runs in the third. An infield single from Danica Arterburn (Sparks, Nev./Spanish Springs HS) tied the game in CSUMB's next at bat before Casto led off the sixth with her bomb to put the Otters back on top, 3-2.

The Toros scratched out their third 2–out run of the game to equalize in their half of the sixth. But the Otters found their own 2–out lightning in the seventh. Bianca Noriega (Ventura/Camarillo HS) came up clutch by lining a single to left field to open the flood gates on a 4–run outburst. Casto added an RBI double and Alissa Greenhaw (Galt/Cosumnes River College) a run–scoring single to secure the victory.

Nicole Pires' (Ontario/Colony HS) 2–run double highlighted a 3–run Otter third that proved to be all the offense they would need in the game. Reinhardt added her third homer of the season, a solo shot with one out in the seventh, to provide herself with an insurance run she ultimately didn't need.
Casto finished the day 4–for–6 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.

CSUMB returns to the friendly confines of the Otter Sports Complex to close its regular season with a 4–game series against Cal State San Bernardino April 25–26. The Coyotes (29–21, 16–16 CCAA) will enter the series one game out of fourth place and the final spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament.
