SEASIDE, Calif. — Senior forward Holly Holcomb (Ventura/Buena HS) posted her first double–double of the season, but it wasn't enough to stop Chico State from pulling away late to take a 64–56 decision from Cal State Monterey Bay Friday night in The Kelp Bed.

Holcomb scored 13 points, grabbed a game–high 10 rebounds and chipped in four steals. Her 10 rebounds lifted her career total to 608, making her just the second player in Otter history to surpass 600 career rebounds. They also raised her season total to 134, putting her in the top 20 in that category as well.

Chico scored the final bucket of the first half to take a 28–27 lead at intermission. The game was still tied well into the second half before a 12–2 run broke a 36–36 tie and put the Wildcats on top to stay at 48–38.
The Otters made a late run, cutting the lead to six with possession of the ball at 58–52 and 1:05 to play. But Chico made six free throws in the final 46 seconds to keep CSUMB at arm's length.

In addition to Holcomb's big night, the Otters got 11 points from Mykayla Harris (Orange/Villa Park HS) as well as three assists and four steals from Ashley Morgan (Rohnert Park/Santa Rosa JC). McKenzie Dalthorp led Chico with 16 points and seven boards.

CSUMB will close the home portion of its 2013-–14 schedule Saturday night when it hosts Cal State Stanislaus at 5:30 p.m. in the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action. It will be the final home game for seniors Holcomb, Morgan, Emily Richard (San Carlos/Foothill College) and Chezla Self (Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta College).
