BOX SCORE POMONA, Calif. – The 14th ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team produced the first run of Friday's conference opener both teams at Cal Poly Pomona but wasn't able to hold on, falling to the Broncos 6-2 at Scolinos Field.
The Otters drop to 3-5 while the Broncos charge on with a 7-0 record.
Behind a 3-for-4 performance, junior
Brian Hamm (Pleasanton/Chabot College) was a part of both CSUMB runs.
Hamm opened the game with a double and later scored on a groundout.
Pomona evened the score in their side of the frame as Amrendariz drew a one-out walk, stole second and later scored on a RBI single by Joseph Eusebio.
The Broncos pulled away in the fifth with three runs highlighted by Amrendariz's two-run homer.
Junior
Ty Morris (Royal Oaks/MPC) and sophomore
Matt Urakami (San Jose/Branham HS) led off the seventh with back-to-back singles. With runners at the corners, Hamm sent a long ball to centerfield for Morris to tag-up and score.
Senior
Chris Daniels (Citrus Heights/Sierra College) picked up his first loss of the year, giving up five runs on nine hits. Pomona's Max Bethell nabbed his third win after 6.2 innings of work.
The Otters will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a doubleheader against the Broncos beginning at 11 a.m.
