SEASIDE, Calif. — An 8–0 run early in the second half provided visiting UC San Diego just enough of a margin to slip past the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team 56–48 Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

The game was tied 23–23 at the half and the Otter led for most of the first five minutes of the second period. But four free throws and a short jumper from Triton junior Miranda Seto capped the three and a half minute spurt that overcame CSUMB's final lead and put UCSD ahead to stay, 37–30. Its lead hovered between one and eight points for the final 14:42 of regulation.

CSUMB got 13 points and three steals from senior guard Chezla Self (Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta College) and 10 points from senior forward Ashley Morgan (Rohnert Park/Santa Rosa JC). Senior forward Holly Holcomb (Ventura/Buena HS) pulled down a team–high nine rebounds.

Seto led all scorers with 16 points, thanks in large part to a 10–of–12 night from the free–throw line. Erin Dautremont added a 13–point, 10–rebound double–double for the Tritons.

The Otters will take Friday off before returning to action Saturday in their first–ever nationally televised game when former Head Coach Renee Jimenez and Cal State San Bernardino visit The Kelp Bed for an 11:05 a.m. tip. CBS Sports Network will carry the game live on Campus Televideo Ch. 31 (DirecTV 221, Dish Network 158). Check your local listings for the channel on your local cable provider.
