ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- After dropping a tough opening game at Sonoma State on a walk–off hit by pitch, the Cal State Monterey Bay softball offense exploded for seven runs in the first three innings of game two to earn a split in the CCAA opening games for both schools.

Sonoma scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to overcome CSUMB's 3–2. But the Otters took advantage of some sloppy Seawolf fielding to score three runs in the opening frame of the nightcap. They then batted around in the third inning, scoring four more times to help make a winner of sophomore Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS), who improved to 3–0 on the young season.

For her part, Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) allowed just four hits in six–plus innings in the opener. But she got into trouble in the seventh, allowing two walks and a ground ball single to the first three batters to load the bases. She then hit Amanda Rossetta to bring home the tying run.

Clarkson came in and got a force out for the first out before hitting Haley Condon to gift the Seawolves the winning run.

Sophomore Bianca Noriega (Ventura/Camarillo HS) continued her hot start by going 3-for-6 with a pair of runs at the plate before finishing game two with 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief. Reinhardt went 3-for-8 with a run and an RBI as the only other Otter to hit safely in both games.

CSUMB and Sonoma will conclude their 4–game series with a doubleheader Saturday at Seawolf Field.
