Servando Perez and Rudy Gonzales score in CSUMB's 2-1 overtime win over NDNU

BOX SCORE BELMONT, Calif. – Senior forward Servando Perez's (Guadalupe, Calif/Hancock JC) golden goal pushed the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team past Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday, Sept. 5 in both teams' season opener as the Otters topped the Argos 2-1 in overtime.

"This contest had the making of a great NCAA game with both teams going at each other for the full 90-plus minutes," said Head Coach Rob Cummings. "This was a true team effort."

Sophomore Rudy Gonzales (Bakersfield, Calif./Independence HS) connected on the tying goal at the 32:12 mark in regulation, answering a goal by NDNU's Jonathan Gonzalez to knot the game up at 1-1 and send both teams into overtime.

On a pass by junior Alberto Anguiano (Oxnard, Calif./Oxnard College) from the right, Gonzales notched his first collegiate goal by cutting inside on the dribble and blasting the ball from 30 yards out.

Sophomore Evan Drake (Sacramento, Calif./El Camino HS) made six saves for the Otters to collect the win. Jay Tsurouka all notched six saves for the Argos.

"Rudy came off the bench to be a real spark plug," Cummings said. "Evan kept us in the game in the first 20 minutes, making great saves."

Junior Julian Salas (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood HS) crossed a brilliant corner kick to the near post, freshman Marco Rangel (Hollister, Calif./San Benito HS) dummied the ball and Perez buried it.

CSUMB held a 21-12 overall shot advantage, dominating overtime with a 5-0 command after struggling in the first half as NDNU took a 9-5 shot lead.  The Otters also had an edge on corner kicks, tallying eight to the Argos' three.

The victory marks the first nonconference road win since Oct. 8, 2007 when the Otters defeated St. Martin's 3-0 in Lacy, Wash.

CSUMB will open its home schedule Saturday, Sept. 7 versus Academy of Art.  The contest is slated for 12:30 p.m. at the Otter Sports Complex.
