TURLOCK, Calif. – On a day when one Otter senior reached a significant milestone and one Otter sophomore extended two others, the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team couldn't get the second win it need to reach the championship bracket at the 2013 Mizuno Tournament of Champions.

CSUMB (24-18 overall) opened the day with a 4-1 win over Azusa Pacific. Needing just a split in their final two games, however, the Otters fell 5-1 to Saint Martin's (Wash.) and 2-1 to Central Washington. CSUMB will play Hawaii Pacific at 11 a.m. Sunday to open Silver Bracket play.

Senior centerfielder Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) singled in the first inning against Central Washington to record her 200th collegiate hit. She joins Ashlee Trotter (239) and Jamie Moon (225) as the only Otters to reach that milestone.

Sophomore Cori Reinhardt (Riverside Poly) enjoyed another stellar day at the play, finishing Saturday's tripleheader 4-for-9 with a double and her third home run of the season. She moved her school-record streak of reaching base safely to 43 games and her current hitting streak to 15 games. She nearly added her fourth homer against Central Washington but for Wildcat centerfielder Remy Washington snow-coning her sixth inning bomb against the temporary fence in right center.

Saturday started in fine fashion as Reinhardt drove in three runs in support of freshman Lindsey Clarkson (Fresno/Central HS), who allowed just five hits and one unearned run in the win over Azusa Pacific. But things got sloppy in Game 2 when three Otters errors led to a pair of unearned runs to stake Saint Martin's to a 2-0 lead.

Reinhardt suffered some wildness in the circle in the fifth, walking three and hitting another to allow the Saints to extend their lead to 5-0 en route to the win.

Reinhardt gave herself a 1-0 lead in the nightcap versus CWU, following Orozco's single and a Skyler Valdivia (Beaumont HS) sacrifice with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. In the circle, she made only one mistake, but it proved costly. She yielded a 2-out walk to Jill McDaniels then left a pitch up to Wildcat first baseman Maikala Galusha, who hit her fourth homer of the season to put CWU on top 2-1 in the fourth.

The Otters had plenty of chances to add to their scoreline but for their inability to execute. Three times the Otters got the leadoff runner on base but failed to get the bunt down to advance her.

After Reinhardt's near miss to open the sixth, Lauren Erimtano (Oakland/Ohlone College) doubled off the fence in left center. A hit batter and a CWU error loaded the bases with one out before a strikeout and a weak popup ended the last Otter threat.

GO OTTERS!
