No. 28 CSUMB Takes Game One From Cal Poly Pomona

Three Otters have multi-hit outing in 9-4 victory over the Broncos

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – Senior Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo) went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to guide the 28th-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team to a school-record 27th win in a 9-4 CCAA victory over Cal Poly Pomona Friday at the Otter Sports Complex.
 
Junior Chris Daniels (Citrus Heights/Sierra Colege) (5-3) earned the victory after scattering nine hits and giving up four runs – three earned – in his eight-inning outing. Junior reliever Rickey Guerrero (Stockton/MPC) contributed with a scoreless final inning
 
After both teams scored a pair of runs in the first inning, the Broncos broke the tie on Jason Padlo's RBI single up the middle in the third.  CSUMB answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs, a Hurley-single and a bases-loaded walk. 
 
CSUMB added three more runs in the fourth inning on two hits and a CPP error.
 
Senior Brian Haggett (Hollister/West Valley College) secured the victory with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
 
CPP's Max Bethell took the loss after three and one-third innings of action, giving up seven runs on six hits.  Andrew Stein led the Broncos with two hits. 
 
The two teams continue the four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
