BOX SCORE 2 SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team came back with a vengeance to earn a doubleheader split at Cal State San Bernardino Saturday. The Otters dropped the first game 8-7 before capturing an 11-5 victory.
The Otters (25-12, 17-10 CCAA) are one win away from tying their single season win record set in 2012.
Senior
Brian Haggett (Hollister/West Valley) led the Otters with five hits and four runs. Senior
Victor Rasor-Thompson (San Diego/Univ. of San Diego) added four hits and three runs.
The Otters conclude their final regular season road trip on Sunday against CSUSB with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
GAME 1: CSUSB 8, CSUMB 7
The Otters saw their 7-0 lead squashed when the Coyotes posted eight runs in the bottom of the ninth for the win.
Junior
Will Anderson (Pleasanton/Fresno State) had to settle for a no decision after tossing eight shutout innings, allowing only one hit while striking out eight batters. Junior
Andrew Wild (Visalia/Fresno City College) took the loss.
Rasor-Thompson went 3-for-4 with a double while scoring two runs and driving in two. Haggett had a 3-for-5 performance with a run and an RBI.
CSUSB's Kyle Abel earned the win after the just one inning of work. With six of their eight hits coming in the final inning, CSUSB's pinch hitter Tyler Stabb was the only Coyotes to rack up multiple hits (2-for-2).
GAME 2: CSUMB 11, CSUSB 5
After being shut down in the first inning, CSUMB spread out its 11 runs in the next six to cruise to an 11-5 victory.
Sophomore
Jeff Owen (Clovis East HS) improved to 8-1 after throwing five innings. He gave up four hits, allowed three runs and struck out six batters. Junior
A.J. Quintero (Vacaville/Sacramento City College) earned his seventh save to continue to lead the CCAA.
Senior
David Garcia (Gilroy/Mission College) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Juniors
Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo) and
Cannon Bernarding (San Jose/West Valley) added two hits and two RBIs. Haggett also had two hits while crossing the plate three times.
CSUSB's starter Matt LeVert took the loss after two and two-third innings.
