Senior Servando Perez knocks in a team-best 10th goal at SF State.
BOX SCORE SAN FRANCISCO – Three Otters contributed goals Friday afternoon to lift the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory at San Francisco State at Cox Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, SF State got on the board when Sam Merritt scored on a breakway from just inside the 18 in the 51st minute.
The Otters scored an equalizer just eight minutes later when junior
Anthony Velazquez (Gilroy HS) received a pass from junior
George Plakorus and took advantage of his space with a 45 yards strike.
CSUMB was granted its first penalty kick of 2013 after junior
Alberto Anguiano (Oxnard/Pacifica HS) was fouled inside the 18. Senior
Servando Perez (Guadalupe/Righetti HS) nabbed a team-best 10th goal, placing the penalty kick in the lower right corner.
Sophomore
Michael Brixey (Truckee HS) tallied an insurance goal in the 82nd minute on a half volley over his right shoulder three yards from goal line. Velazquez was rewarded the assist on the play.
Sophomore
Evan Drake (Sacaramento/El Camino HS) finished with three saves including a punch out on Kevin Johnson's shot in the 26th minute.
Both teams recorded five shots on frame while SF State had a slight 15-12 edge in shots overall.
