Murray nabs goal for the fifth consecutive game

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – Junior Jami Murray's (Newbury/City College of San Francisco) scored her fifth goal in as many games to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over San Francisco State Friday afternoon.

"We battled as a team today," said CSUMB Head Coach Erin Reinke. "We are starting to do the little things that are important to perform at a high level."

The Otters improve to 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play while the Gators fall to 2-5-2, 1-5-1 in CCAA action.

Murray's goal in the 60th minute proved to be the game-winner.  The midfielder hooked the ball to the right side past the outstretched arm of keeper Allison Land on a free kick from 25 yards out.

"Jami has been our scoring rock so far this season, but we hope others will step up and follow her lead soon," Reinke said. "The program will make history again this season because each game we are taking away learning lessons to make us better."

It was Murray's seventh goal of the season, tying Alyssa Matheson (2006) in the CSUMB season record books.

CSUMB keeper Lily Garza (Redwood City/City College of San Francisco) earned her second shutout of 2013, racking up five saves.

The Otters outshot SF State 13-8 with a 6-2 corner kick advantage.  Senior Chelsea Strange (Manhatten Beach/Coastal Carolina) led CSUMB with four shots, two of them being on target.

"Today's game is a good example of how tough our conference really is," Reinke said. "Every game is so important to get as many points as possible."

The Otters return to action on Sunday, Oct. 6, hosting Cal State San Bernardino at 2 p.m.
