CSUMB In Race For Postseason Berth

After a trip to SF State, Otters wrap up regular season against Chico State

SEASIDE, Calif. – Despite two heartbreaking 1-0 losses on the road last weekend, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team in the race for punching its first ever ticket to the CCAA Championships.

"We have worked so hard all season to get this one last opportunity to make the conference playoffs," said CSUMB Head Coach Erin Reinke. "We only control what we need to do, which is to win both games this weekend. The team will need to come together to make it happen. Anything is possible."
 
The Otters enter the final weekend with 17 points and need two victories to finish at 23 points to even have a chance to continue one of their most successful seasons to date.  But CSUMB needs other factors to fall into play as well. 

Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego need to lose their games Friday and then have their head-to-head Sunday match-up end in a tie to finish the season with 22 and 21 points respectively. The Otters also need Cal Poly Pomona to beat UCSD and either tie or fall to Cal State Dominguez Hills to finish with 21 points.

With a stop at San Francisco State (3 p.m.) on Friday, the Otters will conclude their 2013 regular season at home against Chico State (2 p.m.).  Prior to the game, the team will honor five Otter seniors: Kendra Gillio, Chelsea Strange, Natalie Argueta, Kelly Piol and Sherene Thompson.

"It would be wonderful for the seniors to end their collegiate careers being the first senior class to make it to the conference playoffs," Reinke said. "It would be a special season for them to remember. Each senior has grown tremendously which has made our program stronger and more successful this season."
