Junior Jami Murray leads CSUMB in goals in 2013 with seven.
BOX SCORE POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team controlled possession and gave itself plenty of chances on Friday afternoon at Kellogg Stadium, but the Otters were unable to find the back of the net and dropped a 1-0 decision to host Cal Poly Pomona in conference action.
The Otters (6-7-2) are still in the postseason race with three games remaining in regular season despite falling to 5-6-2 in conference.
For the tenth time this season, CSUMB outshot its opponent with a 14-9 advantage. Senior
Natalie Argueta (Costa Mesa HS) tallied three shots while classmate
Chelsea Strange (Manhattan Beach/Coastal Carolina), junior
Jami Murray (Newbury/City College of San Francisco) and sophomore
Regan Porteous (Lodi/Saint Mary's HS) recorded two.
The lone goal of the game came in the 81st minute when Pomona's Hailey James knocked a loose ball past Otter keeper
Kendra Gillio (San Jose/Valley Christian HS).
The Otters best chance came in the 25th minute when Murray had a left-footed shot from 20 yards out that hit the goal post and rolled across the mouth of the goal before being picked up by Bronco keeper Alex Abbott.
CSUMB held a 6-1 corner kick edge over the Broncos.
CSUMB remains on the road, playing at UC San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is 11:30 a.m.
