Kristen Womack lifts Otters to 1-0 win over Seawolves in Rohnert Park

BOX SCORE ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team made program history Friday afternoon, earning its first ever victory over No. 19 Sonoma State with a 1-0 win.

The win lifted the Otters to 5-5-1 overall and 4-4-1 in CCAA while the Seawolves dropped to 7-2-2, 5-2-2 in conference action.

Sophomore Kristen Womack (Roseville/Woodcreek HS) knocked in the game winner in the 37th minute. On a long pass by junior Jami Murray (Newbury/City College of San Francisco), Womack ran down the ball and poked by past a charging Allison Hadidian's hands. She cut it back and ripped a shot that found the back of the net from 20 yards out.

"We played so well against Sonoma State and it's a huge win against a top Division II program in the country," said CSUMB Head Coach Erin Reinke. "The team executed the game plan and finished out strong It shows our growth as a team.

"Kristen had an amazing finish and our team defense was at their best."

The win marks the second time the Otters have taken down a nationally ranked team in the two years. Last season, CSUMB trumped No. 14 Chico State 2-1 in overtime on the road. Womack played a vital role in that win as well, scoring the equalizer and setting up former captain and current assistant coach Andrea Davis for the golden goal.

For the third consecutive Friday, junior keeper Lily Garza (Redwood City/City College of San Francisco) recorded a shutout after racking up two saves in the contest.

CSUMB held the advantage in both shots (6-5) and corner kicks (4-2) over Sonoma State.

"We will continue to improve as we still have seven more games to play," Reinke said. "It is still one game at a time for us."

The Otters next venture north to Arcata to take on the Lumberjacks of Humboldt State on Sunday, Oct. 13.  Kickoff slated for 11:30 a.m.
