BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – It was a rough California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) season opener for the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team as the Otters dropped a 4-0 decision to the No. 17 Sonoma State Seawolves Friday, Sept. 7 at the Otter Sports Complex.
“We played a tough Sonoma team today,” said Head Coach
Erin Reinke. “They will be one of the top teams in the CCAA. We matched up well in between the 18-yard boxes but we need to finish our chances and be better defensively inside our 18-yard box.”
Cara Curtin tallied five points (two goals, 1 assist) to lead the Seawolves.

The Seawolves struck twice within a small window in the first half. On a pass by Sara Studer, Margi Osmundson's shot found the opposite corner in the 33rd minute. Three minutes later, Osmundson set up Curtin for her first goal on a breakaway and tapped it past the keeper.
Curtin notched another goal in the 52nd minute with Elena Catania recording the assist. Struder finished out the Sonoma State scoring in the 69th minute.
“We had the same number of corner kicks as Sonoma did,” Reinke said. “They finished their chances, we did not. We are not too far behind in where we need to be.”
The Otters hit the road to play their second of three consecutive nationally-ranked conference opponents next weekend with No. 4 Chico State on Friday, Sept. 14.
