CARSON, Calif. — The No. 4 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay softball team saw its bats go silent for the first time in 2012, with the result being a doubleheader sweep, 4–1 and 8–0, at the hands of No. 18
Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday at Toro Diamond.
CSUMB (22–6, 14–4 CCAA) scored its only run of the day on
Cori Reinhardt's (Riverside Poly HS) solo home run in the second inning of game one.
Angelina Orozco (Clovis East HS) led off game two with a single. That would prove to be CSUMB's final hit for the day.
In the circle in game one, Reinhardt suffered one bad inning, yielding five hits and three runs in the third inning. She allowed just three hits the rest of the game. In game two, the Otters gifted the Toros six runs on two fourth inning hits by handing them three walks, two hit batters, two wild pitches, a passed ball and an error. CSUDH added two runs in the sixth inning to end the game by run rule.
Orozco was the only Otter to collect a hit in each game. Freshman first baseman
Nina Villanueva (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) went 2–for–3 in game one. Villanueva ran her hitting streak to eight games and Reinhardt ran hers to nine in the opener before both were silenced in game two.
CSUMB and CSUDH (27–6, 18–4) are scheduled to conclude their four–game set Saturday in Carson, though weather forecasts for heavy rain in the area make that occurrence unlikely. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 11 a.m.
