Otters put 6-1-1 senior day record on the line Sunday vs. UCSD

SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team hosts one of its most anticipated weekends of every season this Friday and Sunday as the Otters close their 2012 campaign by hosting Cal State San Bernardino (Friday) and UC San Diego (Sunday).

Sunday will be “Senior Day” with the team bidding adieu to six student-athletes who are putting the cap on their collegiate careers: Andrew Breault, Max Brixey, Gabe Glass, Dylan Niven, Mucho Pefok and Eric Pratt.

“We will look to continue to grow as this will test on resilence in how we can bounce back from disappointing losses were we should have gotten results,” says CSUMB Head Coach Rob Cummings. “Like I tell the seniors, 'you remember your last games. We win these then you will remember this more than the disappointing losses this year. Not everyone gets to end their collegiate career with a win.'

“Also, these two games are big for our program as we continue to grow and get better. What we do in these two games will spring board us into the spring season. We are focused on getting better, not the wins and losses; the wins will come. We just have to get consistent.”

THIS WEEK IN OTTER MEN'S SOCCER HISTORY

CSUMB clinched its first CCAA Tournament berth with a 2–1 win over San Francisco State and a 2–2 tie at Cal State L.A. on Oct. 24 and Oct. 28, 2007.

OTTER MEN'S SOCCER ODDS & ENDS

LET'S GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT: The Otters can make a significant impact on the outcome of the CCAA race this weekend. A win over UCSD on Sunday would likely eliminate the Tritons from postseason consideration.

GOING OUT IN STYLE: The Otters have been an extremely dangerous team on senior day. CSUMB is 6–1–1 on senior days while competing at the NCAA level, including a 2–0 victory over postseason–bound Cal State Dominguez Hills on the first senior day of the Rob Cummings era. The Otters are 5–1–2 on the final day of regular season play (regardless of venue) as an NCAA member.

RECORD WATCH: The assist by Andrew Breault at Sonoma State on Oct. 13 gave the senior forward 21 points for his career. That puts him in sole possession of fifth on the CSUMB career scoring list. Fellow senior Max Brixey is No. 4 on that list with 26 career points.

GIVE THAT BOY A HAND: The aforementioned assist by Andrew Breault was the 11th of his career, moving him past Max Brixey and Nic Torricelli into sole possession of third place on the Otter career list.

WORKING HARD OR HARDLY WORKING? The Otters finally experienced overtime for the first time in 2012, needing three extra minutes to beat Cal State East Bay on Sept. 30. It's just the third time the Otters reached the 11–match mark without playing multiple overtime games. CSUMB has averaged four overtime matches per season since joining forces with the NCAA in 2004. The Otters have never gone a season without playing into overtime. Should they make it through the weekend without playing extra time, it would mark the first time since 2004 they played but one overtime game.
