CSUMB falls 1-0 to CCAA North Division leader on the road

BOX SCORE ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A goal two minutes into overtime ended Cal State Monterey Bay's upset attempt as No. 12 Sonoma State pulled off the extra-time winner by a 1-0 count Saturday in front of a crowd of 705 at Seawolf Field.

“We battled with a very good Sonoma State team to overtime today,” said Head Coach Erin Reinke. “We didn't come out with enough intensity in the overtime and Sonoma is well-experienced team to step up their game to get a result. No matter what we improved today as a program.”

Cara Curtin netted the golden goal, her 13th goal of the season, to raise SSU to 12-1-1 overall, 9-1-1 in CCAA action.  The Otters fall to 7-6 and 4-6 in conference play.

Senior keeper Diana Zambrano (La Puente, Calif./Mt. SAC) suffered the loss despite making five saves and facing 15 shots in the match.

The Otters finished with eight shots as freshman Regan Porteous led the way by tallying two shots on target.

The Otters best chance to score came in the 74th minute.  A cross by freshman Kristen Womack set Porteous up for good shot, forcing the SSU keeper Alexis Sciacqua to push the ball wide to give CSUMB its fifth corner kick of the game. The Otters held 6-1 corner kick advantage.

CSUMB continues its final road trip of the 2012 regular season, traveling to SF State Friday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is 3 p.m.
