Senior Andrea Davis converts second penalty kick to lift CSUMB to victory.

Otters earn sixth win in a double overtime win against Humboldt State

BOX SCORE SEASIDE, Calif. – Senior Andrea Davis' (San Diego, Calif./Coronado HS) penalty kick in the 101st minute lifted the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team to a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Humboldt State Thursday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

The win raises CSUMB's (7-5) program record to six victories as Humboldt State dropped to 1-8 on the season.

"We didn't play the best soccer consistently today but the moments we did we were very good," said Head Coach Erin Reinke. "We will take a win when we don't play as well as we know we can. The team is learning to finish the close game. The fight the team showed today will set us up for the Sonoma State game on Saturday."

The Lumberjacks quickly took the attack at the beginning of game, getting a shot off in the second minute. CSUMB answered with a strong offensive run as senior Lindsey Gatlin set up a perfect cross. Senior Korie Soares scored on a header dead center in the fifth minute of play.

In the 77th minute, freshman Kristen Womack gave CSUMB a bit of a cushion with a low shot to the far corner after taking a lead pass from senior Gabriella Bozzo.

The Lumberjacks offense went on a rampage in the final 10 minutes, scoring two goals to take the game into overtime. The first goal came on a free kick by Colette Behen in the 81st minute.  With only six seconds remaining in regulation, Behen sent the ball into a cluster bunch which Maddi Hall tapped the ball past the goal line.

Womack drew a foul just inside the box to grant CSUMB the penalty kick.  The Lumberjack keeper dove to her right and Davis blasted the ball to the opposite direction for the golden goal.

Senior Diana Zambrano (La Puente, Calif./Mt. SAC) recorded seven saves, tying her career-high set in the 1-0 shutout at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sept. 12.

In the second consecutive game, the Otter defense came up big in assisting Zambrano.  Junior Shoshana Wangerin stopped an open goal shot with five minutes remaining.

The Otters were outshot 14-11, but came out on top in the overtime with a 4-0 shot count.

CSUMB travels to Sonoma State on Saturday, Oct. 13 for a 2 p.m. kickoff.

Note: Due to violating hazing rules, Humboldt State is not eligible to compete in CCAA tournament. All games played, including this one, against HSU will not count in the CCAA standings.
