HAYWARD, Calif. – In the first of three matches this week, the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters fell in three sets to the Pioneers of Cal State East Bay, Tuesday 25-18, 25-18, 25-14.

Melanie Lashbrook (Truckee/Tahoe Truckee HS) had a match-high 11 kills, with senior outside hitter
Rheann Fall (Elk Grove/St. Francis HS) adding nine kills. Sophomore defensive specialist
Lacee Ventura (Salinas/Salinas High) finished with 10 digs.
CSUMB opened the match with a 4-2 lead before the Pioneers took charge with a 9-4 run. The Otters would not be able to recover, falling 25-18 in the first set. Fall racked up five kills to lead CSUMB while Lashbrook chipped in four kills.
The Otters stayed within two points with the hosts until the 8-7 mark when the CSUEB offense ran off six consecutive points to cruise to another 25-18 victory. Lashbrook put down five kills while junior
Rachel Freeno (Alta Loma/Alta Loma HS) registered five digs.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead and took advantage of seven CSUMB hitting errors to clinch the sweep with a 25-14 win. CSUEB recorded a .382 attack percentage with 15 kills.
Katie Allen led CSUEB with 11 kills and five blocks while Samantha Bruno nabbed 10 kills and six blocks.
The Otters travel to Chico State on Friday, Sept. 30 for a showdown against the Wildcats at 7 p.m.
